The National Defense University recently acknowledged the importance of social networking as a vital tool for maintaining relationships throughout the Defense Department and its partners according to NDIA in its recent article "Defense Industry Must Embrace Social Media".
Boosting the public's literacy on military weapons systems is now easier thanks to the introduction of sophisticated personal technologies. Military technology that once seemed abstract are more readily understood in today's marketplace, such as GPS systems.
Although on and offline media outlets help the public become more informed of defense spending, it also allows them to be more critical as well. Social networking is being employed to help combat this, such as defense-oriented blogs and Twitter accounts to hold press conferences and answer questions.
Over time blogs will become even more influential and defense communicators must pay attention to what is being said and be ready to offer comments, facts, and rebuttals.
