Dunn-Edwards eco-efficient principles:

• 1984- D&E removes EG (a hazardous air pollutant and toxic air contaminant) from its paint formulas, and remains the only major manufacturer to have done so.
• 1970s- D&E reformulates all water-based paints to eliminate the use of biocides containing mercury — long before the U.S. EPA imposed a limited ban in 1990.
• 1980s- D&E replaces ethylene glycol (a toxic solvent) with safer, non-toxic, FDA-approved propylene glycol.
